Puff Puff Package: How Top Vendors Utilize Creative Packaging & Design

Creative Cannabis Packaging in Cultivera Market

Cultivera Market is full of products that have truly awesome packaging; in terms of their graphic design choices, labeling, arrangement, and when considering the quality and structure of the physical materials used. With only a few months to go until 4/20, we’re sharing a few brands whose product packaging really caught our attention.

The products that we included on this list fit three categories at once: they have something unique about their physical shape; they considered visual appeal in their creative design; and they were sure to include an abundance of informative content for budtenders and consumers.

Because when shoppers consider what to buy, they tend to look for communication that they can connect to, verbal and non-verbal. After all, the text included on packaging by law has to cover certain features, dates and data, but the shape of the vessel, and whatever further information is displayed, is chosen by the creator of the products.

The Best Packaging in Class

When releasing new products, producers and processors often ask themselves a series of questions: what extra content or design will educate customers in a beneficial way; what visuals and shapes will stand out on a shelf; and what type of packaging will communicate to the buyer that what they’re choosing is both quality and right for them?

What makes one vape better than another, or this pre-roll pack higher value than any other? It’s the little choices, like building a new holding mechanism for your oil, creating a flight pack for your concentrates, or offering products in a package that keeps them in the best condition possible.

Our team combed through the incredible menus in Washington’s Cultivera Marketplace, and amidst the giant variety of options, these products caught our attention as the most sure to get customers and salespeople alike talking.

Marketplace Wisdom from Wyld's "Weird" Box

One of the most noticeable success stories in the industry for years, both in Washington and nationwide, comes from Wyld. Wyld consistently tops performance charts across the supply chain, especially in the Washington Cultivera Marketplace. A big key to this popularity may be in their incredibly unique packaging.

Budtenders around the country are accustomed to hearing customer requests that sound something like, “I’ll take the Indica one in that weird shaped box, please.”

No matter where you are, there’s one major brand that comes to mind with a hint like that, and for Wyld, that’s by design.

Corey Cline, Cultivera’s retail expert, shared his insights on this from years of dispensary sales experience:

"Wyld packaging is visually appealing because it's so distinct in how it looks like an origami box. When they showed up on my own dispensary’s shelves, I knew them immediately and reached right for them.

People really love the packaging and the marketing of the brand because the products are marketed to direct consumers for the exact effect or desire of edible they're looking for.

It takes a lot of work (off one's plate) as a budtender or sales associate, because you can point to their displays that they provide, and are marked very well. And even on the box, they feature effects-based descriptions, letting consumers (and budtenders) know exactly what they should be able to expect, rather than just guessing."

Wyld went live in Washington’s Cultivera Marketplace in Q1 of 2022, and by Q2, their Elderberry Gummies were already at the top of the Top Edibles leaderboard of our Market Reports.

By Q3 of the same year, Wyld was already listed in the Top 10 Vendors in the Cultivera Marketplace, and holding a whopping 22% of the Edibles market.

Since those first few quarters, Wyld has continued to rise in the Top 10 Vendor list, last coming in at #3 in Q3, 2025, while still holding the #1 Edibles spot and the largest share of the Edibles market at 26%.

Wyld’s products, and sales stats, show that the power of having a good product with an iconic design, and effects-based information, can help a brand transcend the competition.

Packaging Poised for Oil Optimization

The next product we noticed with truly exceptional packaging was the Fairwinds Manufacturing Full Extract Cannabis Oil.

These ‘FECO pens’ are built to dispense 25mg of product ‘per click’ and they have 3 different ratios on sale; ‘High CBD 10:1,’ ‘High THC 1:10,’ and ‘Balanced Blend 1:1’. While Fairwinds products frequently highlight a fantastic amount of information and education, their FECO products also excel at their intentional package design.

Labeled on the Washington Cultivera Market as, “Washington’s only true Fully Extracted Cannabis Oil,” Fairwinds claims that “a single gram of our juice concentrate is equivalent to 200 grams of fresh whole cannabis plant!” They also offer specific details on cannabinoid ratios, amounts, and potency on each package.

All this information and more is included on the packaging, and you might expect that so much text would look cluttered and uninteresting. Instead, Fairwinds’ FECO product packages are well balanced and organized in their design. The packages also demonstrate impressive thoughtfulness in structural design. The oil is held upright and in place with a uniquely folded and cut card stock structure.

This is a big benefit, because, for those unfamiliar with the behind-the-scenes production experience of cannabis products, there’s a lot of moving around! Products come out of the processing machines and are stored, then relocated for shipping, then they are shipped, received, and stored again at a dispensary, and then moved and organized over and over by budtenders.

While the best in the industry do whatever they can to gently relocate product, a well-designed package structure like this offers the best chance to the product in terms of arriving, and staying, in good shape while it waits on dispensary shelves for consumers!

One of our longest running customers, Fairwinds was first active in Cultivera Market in January of 2018. With effect-focused naming and marketing, over the years both their popular “Flow 1:1:1” Topical and their “Deep Sleep Tincture” have held top spots in their respective category leaderboards in the Cultivera Market Reports. Fairwinds has also continuously appeared in the Top 5 Market Share Holders lists for both categories as well, quarter after quarter.

Grams for Gamers

Finding inspiration from the subcultures that overlap with the average cannabis consumer is a brilliant way to attract attention. Everyone knows someone, or knows someone who knows someone, who spends the majority of their time both consuming cannabis and playing video games.

In order to attract the ‘gamer stoner’ type, the Seattle based processors at Anonymous Buffalo offer the A.F.K (Away From Keyboard) product line.

This playful product is described in their Cultivera Marketplace menu as “Weed For Gaming,” offering premium strains chosen to match specific game-play styles.

So whether a customer is planning for “Casting Spells,” “Joy Riding,” or “Zombie Slaying,” Anonymous Buffalo has them covered.

“Our premium strains are meticulously selected to match the rhythm of your gaming adventures, offering a tailored spectrum of effects for different play styles.

Whether you require the serene focus to outlast opponents, the swift energy for fast-paced missions, or the balanced harmony for an epic journey, AFK’s product lines are crafted to accompany every session."

Both the shape of the bag and the graphic design tie this concept together, artistically and thematically, creating a capturing force for a customer browsing the shelves.

Joint Packs in a Pint Glass

Another interesting packaging option comes from the premium brand and long time Cultivera Market vendors of Top Shelf.

To stand out from the usual crowd, Top Shelf offers many of their products in reusable branded glassware.

From flower sold in shot glasses to pre-rolls in pint glasses, and beyond, this resourceful choice to not only sell high quality product but house it in useful, brand-specific glass is brilliant.

The packaging looks good on the shelf, catches consumer attention, and gives them a sense of getting a good deal. Buyers walk away with two new products, instead of one!

Not to mention the inherent wastefulness avoided by not using disposable packaging!

Legal cannabis compliance expectations have generated an overly common dependence on excessive, often redundant, packaging acrosss the industry supply chain.

We have to applaud Top Shelf for finding a creative solution to wasteful packaging, and for thinking outside the box overall.

Honorable Mentions

Visual, Variated Vapes

Proprietary vaporizer systems can often have limited success in an oversaturated market. However, Cultivera Market newcomers at Rove have taken the time to design their packaging intentionally.

Though the overall packaging is a consistely sleek black, each product includes colors coordinated to the strain inside. This choice makes it so that information is extremely clear and eye catching against the cool smoke affect of the black matte and glossy mix background of each package.

a black rectangle with blue accents on the bottom and side with the name rove and blue dream hybrid on the front in white and a rectangular long vape with a rounded mouth peice and small window for the oil

Plus, being able to buy cartridges, or “Reloads,” separately, rather than having all their products be disposable, means less waste overall, which we always love to see.

Delicate, Delectable Design

When it comes to products that stand up well on any shelf, Verdelux Chocolates takes the challenge literally. From their cylindrical RSO tubes to their beauifully packaged edibles, Verdelux products stand out in a variety of ways, including colorful designs, mouthwatering flavor choices, and descriptive details.

a three dimensional rectangular magenta background with pink font design that says bon bombs with a bomb icon as the o in the word bombs. also raspberries and green leaves behind two chocolate rounded treats over the words raspberry 54% dark chocolate

But the most interesting choice is how each of their chocolate confections, including their “Meltaway Truffles,” “Bombshells,” and “Bon Bombs,” are packed in tall, sturdy containers that literally stand up on the shelf.

Built for sturdiness and variety, these packages can either be hung, or stood up in a display. This packaging architecture helps them stand out in an industry full of flat packages and pop-top tubes.

It may seem insignificant to some, but packing delicate products like chocolates in this kind of way can truly give what’s inside the best chance at arriving to customers fully intact. That seems worth it to us, and we commend Verdelux for going the extra mile.

Buying Built Better With Cultivera Market

The Washington Cultivera Marketplace has just about every possible product type you could want to stock in the i502 industry.

With all that variety, how are retail purchasers supposed to tell which is top quality, or ultimately decide which of the options to select? As the old cliche suggests, judging based on merely the cover won’t amount to the best selection every time, but in the case of these products, extra attention and appreciation for the external is worth noticing.

Each of the brands and products above reflect thoughtful design choices, and suggests a producer/processor that took the extra time to consider how they could not only capture the focus of a discerning consumer, but also benefit them the most.

Cultivera software solutions are built to support industry players at any point in the supply chain, from seed to point-of-sale, but it’s the special, creative twists each brand adds along the way that help the i502 industry truly flourish and stand out.
